July 2025. Another summer and another car trip. This time, for time reasons, we went to the Altai Mountains. The trip turned out to be a mixed bag, difficult, and more like an expedition. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to make a full circle of all the remote locations of the Altai Mountains.
I deliberately started shooting in black and white because otherwise I would not have been able to capture and fully perceive the landscape of the Altai.
My relationship and feeling towards this place is a direct response in these works. The space is presented as ambiguous and uncertain; it seems beautiful and familiar, but if you dig deeper, it is a very ancient place. It seems shrouded in an invisible shield, concealing it from prying eyes. The black-and-white palette helped eliminate distracting nuances and more accurately convey the complexity and ambiguity of this land.
