The works are made in the diptych technique, created during a long journey through the regions of Russia from June 2024 to September 2024.
In the modern world, “home” is perceived not only as a physical space, but also as an abstract concept filled with the meaning of belonging, migration and intercultural coexistence.
The project, “Transformation of the Home, ” creates a visual narrative from diptychs about how the concept of home is rethought, going through the stages of accepting life changes.
They say there are 5 stages of acceptance of the inevitable, and each of us may have encountered these stages during moments of strong emotional upheaval. Based on the theory of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, I was inspired and rethought these stages during my big trip to Russia.
I experimented with them, considering how they relate to the theme of finding your home and place, and added 2 of my own stages for a deeper understanding of this process. The project includes 8 stages, reflecting the path from denial to full acceptance.
1. Shock
Сonfusion and affect in the face of sudden change, a moment of surprise and helplessness.
2. Denial
Ignoring obvious changes.
3. Anger
A depiction of conflict and struggle, an expression of tension and emotional chaos caused by loss of stability.
4. Bargaining
Searching for compromises through symbolism.
5. Depression
A dark diptych with lonely figures against a background of lifeless landscapes, a reflection of an internal struggle.
6. Reflection
Awareness of one’s identity in the context of change.
7. Engagement
Filling with light and warmth (energy), the process of thinking.
8. Acceptance-humility
Integration, symbolizing the fusion of old and new. The moment when different elements of the past and present come together, creating a sense of unity and harmony in a new space.
